Living in Mid-City Los Angeles: Right in the Middle of It All

Mid-City and its neighbor, West Adams is one of those Los Angeles neighborhoods where the name really does say it all: you’re right in the middle of the city.

Situated between Downtown Los Angeles and Santa Monica, Mid-City makes a great home base for anyone who wants convenient access to both sides of LA without committing to one extreme or the other. Head east and you’re on your way to Downtown. Head west and you can make your way toward Santa Monica and the coast. That central location is a big part of what makes Mid-City especially practical for longer stays in Los Angeles.

For guests staying a month or more, location matters differently than it does on a short vacation. You’re not just thinking about sightseeing. You may be commuting to work, meeting friends in different parts of the city, trying new restaurants, shopping for groceries or simply figuring out how to make Los Angeles feel manageable. Mid-City gives you a convenient starting point for all of it.

Close to Some of LA’s Best Neighborhoods

One of the best things about living in Mid-City is just how many distinct Los Angeles neighborhoods are nearby.

Culver City is close by, with its restaurants, shops, entertainment companies and increasingly lively downtown district.

To the northeast, Koreatown offers some of the best Korean food in the country, along with cafes, markets, nightlife and a completely different feel from the neighborhoods just a few miles away.

Leimert Park is also nearby and is one of Los Angeles’ most important centers of African American arts and culture, with music, galleries, community events and local businesses worth exploring.

Head north and you can easily reach Beverly Grove, home to restaurants, shopping, the Original Farmers Market and The Grove, as well as attractions around Museum Row.

That is one of the pleasures of staying in Mid-City: you can spend one afternoon in Culver City, have dinner in Koreatown, explore Leimert Park the next day and head toward Beverly Grove after that without feeling as though you are crossing the entire city.

Mid-City is widely recognized for this central positioning, with nearby access to Culver City, Koreatown, Miracle Mile and other central LA neighborhoods.

Downtown or the Beach? You Can Go Either Way

Los Angeles is famous for its traffic, so having more than one transportation option can make a big difference.

Mid-City is served by nearby stations on the Metro E Line, formerly known as the Expo Line. The E Line travels through areas including Downtown Los Angeles, Exposition Park, Jefferson Park, Culver City and West Los Angeles before reaching Downtown Santa Monica.

That means you can head toward Downtown LA for restaurants, museums, sporting events and entertainment, or travel in the opposite direction toward Santa Monica without having to make the entire trip behind the wheel.

For longer-term visitors, that flexibility is particularly useful. You may still want a car—this is Los Angeles, after all—but you don’t necessarily have to use it for every outing.

A Central Home Base for an Extended Stay

If you’re here for a temporary work assignment, relocation, an extended visit with family or simply a month or two in LA, staying centrally can make the city much easier to navigate. Instead of choosing between east and west, Mid-City and West Adams both put you in a position to enjoy both.

You’re close to Culver City. You’re close to Koreatown. You’re close to Leimert Park and Beverly Grove. Downtown Los Angeles is to the east, Santa Monica is to the west, and the Metro E Line gives you another way to move between them.
